You've made it to my page on Middle Kuyst. I haven't written a sketch grammar yet for this conlang - and it may never happen - but I have got a short, incomplete list of grammatical shifts and etymon-reflex pairs.

The grammatical shifts in their current state, in chronological order

  1. The genitive case of the subject when an auxiliary verb is used is reanalysed as a nominative case - the genitive overall now becomes a nominative-genitive case.
  2. The main verb, no longer bound by the subject, moves to be between the two direct arguments in a transitive clause, remaining before the subject in an intransitive clause.
  3. The closed adjective class is lost
  4. The nominative broadens to all subjects
  5. The marked nominative alignment becomes marked ergative - nominative-genitive becomes ergative-genitive
  6. The genitive case is replaced by the possessed case - the possessed marker originates from the 3SG.GEN unstressed enclitic
